IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING STATE TESTING AND PARENT OPTING OUT/IN CHOICES ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some of the concerns that have been expressed about the CMAS tests are the additional loss of instruction time after having already lost time due to COVID, testing stress on students, the time it takes to get CMAS results, the validity of the state testing results, and the disruption to learning during the school day. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please know that we continue to administer local standards-based tests three times a year. The test that we use is the Scantron Ed Performance Test for first through twelfth grades. Kindergarteners are assessed using School Readiness Gold Teaching Strategies. These tests are nationally normed, and we can receive the results of these tests immediately after the students have completed the test. Teachers use these results to plan instruction for each student. Additionally, we use other assessments through the year to evaluate our students’ achievement and growth. These include pre- and post-tests, chapter tests, and quizzes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In addition to CMAS, the school will also administer these tests: PSAT9 for freshmen, PSAT10 for sophomores, and SAT for juniors. The value of these tests is the preparation of students for college entry scores. The PSAT is a pre-test that prepares students for their junior year SAT test. The SAT is a college admission test which is given to our students in the spring of their junior year of high school. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As has always been the case for parents in Colorado, you can excuse your student from state testing. If this is your choice, please complete the Pawnee RE-12 District Parent Form to Excuse Student from State Testing that has been included in this newsletter. The form can also be accessed on the school’s website; you can find it under Parent Information – District Assessment Policy. Please have this form returned to us by April 5th, 2021 so that we can adequately plan for test administration. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your partnership in helping students succeed!

Due to the snow storm last week, the Spring Concert has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 31st at 6pm. Many students have been sent home with instruments to practice over break, so please check in with them about putting some time aside to practice their portion of the show! Have a safe and wonderful Spring Break; we can’t wait to (finally) show you what we’ve been working on!
